I just wanted to “fit in,” be normal, and lay low so I didn’t give people the opportunity to talk. I had been struggling with being gay, knowing deep down it was who I was but rejecting it like so many other teenagers. It was around Halloween of my sophomore year in high school that I had my first suicide attempt.
Yet this time of year always brings mixed emotions for me. Just a few short years ago in high school I could never have imagined my life being where it is today, a triathlete and president of the men’s volleyball club team at the school.
